‘Chicago PD’ season 3, episode 20 review: ‘In a Duffel Bag’ tackles Voight’s past, much more
What happened to a baby on “Chicago PD” Wednesday night? That was the focus behind “In a Duffel Bag,” one of the more emotional episodes of the entire season.
First and foremost, this case was emotional just because you were dealing with young children, and that almost always is no matter the show. What made it even more so was learning how deeply affected Voight was personally about this because of something in his past, when he lost what could have been a daughter. There were many suspects that came about as a result of the hour, mostly because of so many different factors being brought into the case.
Therefore, it was sad and ironic that the real answer as to what happened to the baby was a rather simple explanation: She was left out by another young child, while the boy’s father did what he could to cover for him at first, thinking that something terrible would happen to him. It was a heartbreaking end, but the good news is that the baby did make it through the process, and the original birth mother is now prepared to fight for her.
In another part of this story, Lindsay did get her wish to make an extremely public arrest, and Voight had a chance to show how good he is with children in the closing minutes. It was a nice, sweet, full-circle moment for a guy who comes across as so rigid. This episode was all about holding those close to you near, and fighting for those you care about. Maybe that’s why Burgess and Roman decided to get even closer in the final minutes of the hour. Episode Grade: B+.
