‘Law & Order: SVU’ season 17, episode 21 preview: Mariska Hargitay, cast take on reality TV
Tonight, “Law & Order: SVU” returned after a lengthy hiatus to bring us an important case in the high fashion world, and also the return of Richard Belzer as Munch to go along with it. So where do we go from here? Well, next week’s new episode is going to take a look at the complicated world of reality TV, something already presented in a gruesome light over on Lifetime’s “UnREAL.” There’s also a really great episode of “Psych” about it, if you’re into something that is a little bit more comedic.
In the case of “SVU,” Benson and company are going to be taking on a very serious case when a contestant on a popular show claims that she was raped. This episode is entitled “Assaulting Reality,” and you can see the synopsis below:
“The producers of a reality dating series make Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and the SVU part of the show when they investigate a contestant’s claim that she was raped.”
Is it possible that something like this could have happened? Without a doubt. Even though there are often cameras almost everywhere in reality TV, it would be a mistake to think that there are people watching in every room at every second of the day. Also, there could also be horrible people out there willing to help cover up something so extremely terrible for the right price. There is a case here, and it will be interesting to see how “SVU” and the writers decide to depict this world.
