‘Outlander’ season 2, episode 5 preview: What’s next with Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe in party aftermath

Jamie -

Going into the end of this weekend’s new episode of “Outlander,” it certainly felt as though Jamie and Claire’s dinner-party plan had a chance of working, and the Jacobite Rebellion plot could be stopped before it truly got going. However, Mary Hawkins’ screams, which followed up an attack on the streets, put all of those best-laid plans to waste. Now, Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe’s characters have to regroup and figure out now what their next move is. As it turns out, it could be difficult.

While we do not have too much to say right now in terms of offering substantial teases for the next episode, we do have a short synopsis below that hints at some further trouble for our heroes, which could stretch beyond just what they are doing in the present:

“Reunited, Jamie and Claire attempt to extinguish the fires their dinner party ignited; however, Claire is set off on an unexpected change of course.  Jamie and Claire’s relationship is put to the ultimate test when the past rears its ugly head.”

Ultimately, there are so many different threats that Jamie and Claire do have to worry about in France. Whether it be because of the Comte or someone else, Claire is clearly being targeted; meanwhile, there is the highwire act of stopping the Rebellion, and then also the looming threat of Black Jack Randall out there. Jamie seems excited about killing him if given the opportunity, but will he even get a chance? Time will tell. (We’re not a book reader, so there aren’t any spoilers in this particular preview.)
