‘Doctor Who’ season 10: Peter Capaldi’s unusual quest to support Pearl Mackie

Pearl -

As many reading this article likely know by now, Pearl Mackie has been named the latest Companion on “Doctor Who“! The announcement was made last week, but before that there was some time when both she, star Peter Capaldi, and some other people involved knew that they had the job.

Ultimately, what this meant was that there were a few awkward encounters that happened as a means of further preserving the secret. For more on this particular subject, all you have to do is look at what Capaldi had to say recently in a new interview with BBC News:

“I wanted to see the show but I didn’t expect to be asked backstage to meet everyone. I knew Pearl had the job, but I couldn’t tell anyone and she couldn’t tell anyone … It was only because I had worked in that theatre previously and all the front of house staff knew me, so they said ‘Peter, you must go backstage’.

“So, that was a great performance of mine pretending that I didn’t know Pearl!”

Now, of course, Capaldi and Mackie can be a little bit more out in the open as they work on the upcoming tenth season, which will be preceded by a Christmas Special later this year. There is still not too much known about the new Companion Bill other than that she is relatively new to the world of time-travel, so she is not someone who is going to be entering this world with the Doctor carrying some sort of grand knowledge of how everything works, or how to handle herself in every particular situation.
