Is Anderson Cooper looking to join Kelly Ripa on ‘Live!’ in the near future?

Kelly and Michael -

While we know already that Kelly Ripa is looking for a new co-host for her “Live!” show on ABC, Anderson Cooper may not be the one she eventually lands.

Speaking while on his friend Andy Cohen’s “Watch What Happens Live!” this week, Cooper (who briefly had his own daytime series) made it clear that he was “happy” to continue to do his show over at CNN, and also that there had not been any offer made to him to come on and co-host this show with Ripa. Do we think that he would be happy to take the show? Maybe, but there is still a heck of a lot of time to go between now and when a decision needs to be for the fall.

We personally do think that, at least from the ABC point of view, they need to do almost everything that they can in order to ensure that they find the right person. That’s probably going to include plenty of screening tests, that way they can get a real chance to learn whether or not there is a co-host that is right to pair up alongside Ripa permanently. It’ll probably take a little bit of time, but that’s fine if they get the right person. Also, it may not be someone who is necessarily the most predictable person for the role. for example, who thought that Michael Strahan, a New York Giants football player, was going to be the right replacement for Regis Philbin? It was a crazy thought, but it was something that ended up happening nonetheless.
