‘Match Game’ returning to ABC with Alec Baldwin as host
Many years ago, ABC had themselves one of the biggest game shows of all time in “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire,” and for at least a little while, it was dominant. We’re not altogether sure that they will ever have that sort of move pay off again, but they are at least doing something fun with their lineup on Sunday nights: Really emphasizing classic game shows in new ways.
As you may have heard, the network already had a lineup that included the likes of “Celebrity Family Feud” and “$100,000 Pyramid” airing starting on June 26. Now, they have added another series to the mix in “Match Game,” which will air at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time and be hosted by Alec Baldwin.
According to Vulture, the new version will of course feature contestants trying to fill in the blanks on some phrases, and hope that they match with a few celebrities who are on the panel. It’s always been a fun, wacky show, and prone to a few racy remarks here and there. That’s probably why it is coming on so late at night in comparison to the others.
Baldwin will executive-produce the show, and he is giving his entire appearance fee for it over to the Hilaria and Alec Baldwin Foundation, which supports a variety of arts-related programs. This is his way to give back, while also doing something that will probably just be a lot of fun for him. There aren’t many other people out there who we think would be more perfect for this particular role than him.
