‘Gilmore Girls’ revival: Melissa McCarthy on surprise return

One of the happiest stories of the past few months has to be the return of Melissa McCarthy to “Gilmore Girls.” Even if her appearance as Sookie is a brief one on the upcoming Netflix revival, the fact that it is even happening is something worth smiling over.

McCarthy seems to be smiling more than anyone, as she’s now filmed her guest spot and seems thrilled that everything worked out. Speaking to People while at the recent Time 100 gala, she had the following to say:

“For the longest time it was just not going to work out schedule-wise. And once we decided is there any possible way, something fell out for me, something changed for them, and then we immediately nabbed it … I went back and visited about two weeks ago and saw the sets again and everybody on them.”

There is no premiere date just yet for the “Gilmore Girls” revival, but it will be comprised of four 90-minute episodes, with each one themed around a season. Melissa is just one of many notable names returning, as Alexis Biedel, Lauren Graham, Jared Padalecki, Matt Czuchry, and Milo Ventimiglia are just some of the notable names filming a spot.

This is a big few weeks for McCarthy in general. Her movie “The Boss” recently opened at the box office, and the final episodes of “Mike & Molly” are in the process of airing right now on CBS. This coupled with “Bridesmaids” are probably the things that led to her career skyrocketing over the course of the past several years.
