‘Fear the Walking Dead’ season 2, episode 3 sinks versus ‘Game of Thrones’

Strand -We’ve said for weeks that Sunday night’s new episode of “Fear the Walking Dead” could be one of the most interesting episodes in the entire run of the series, if for no other reason than that you’re staring at competition like “Game of Thrones” square in the face.

So for Sunday night’s new episode, what we saw was the show draw a series low 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Of course, this is a decent drop from the week before, but we actually think that given the competition, it’s far from terrible. This was still easily enough to make the “Walking Dead” companion series the #2 show on the night, and provided that it keeps this up, it is going to be in a really stellar position to ensure that it remains on the air for many years to come.

Even if it does decline further, there’s no real need to worry since the show was already renewed for a third season. The majority of our personal curiosity here just came out of seeing how big of a pool of viewers there were for these two shows at one time, given that they both have very big genre audiences.

One thing that may be helping “Fear” in the weeks to come is simply a matter of cable subscriptions. Not everyone has HBO, and in turn, not everyone may be interested in paying $15 a month to watch a show over the course of several months. “Fear the Walking Dead” is ultimately a little more accessible. Yes, HBO did have a free preview this weekend, but how many casual viewers knew that?
