‘Better Call Saul’ season 3: Betsy Brandt open to appearance after season 2 close call

Better Call Saul season 2Throughout most of the season of “Better Call Saul,” we’ve wondered just who the supposed “Breaking Bad” cameo was going to be that was decided against after discussions between co-creator Vince Gilligan and the writers. We’d actually thought that this cameo was none other than Gus Fring both going into and after the finale, but it turned out instead that it was none other than Marie! The idea was to use her in one of the scenes with Chuck at the hospital, given that she is an x-ray technician and there was a logical reason to bring her aboard.

However, as it turns out, the writers determined that this would be deemed as much of a distraction. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Brandt said after viewing the episode that she totally understood the decision, and also added that she was never made aware of their plans:

“This is crazy! I’ve talked to all those guys and they never said anything! Even on Breaking Bad, Vince would have ideas for stories for your character, and a lot of times he wouldn’t tell you because if it didn’t happen, you’d get disappointed. So I respect that.”

As for whether or not she would be open to having a role in an upcoming episode of this show still, Brandt made it clear she was game:

“It’s not her time … I hope she has her time. Vince always makes the right call … That said, I would so love to work with Michael that I would never say no to working with an actor that I love. I think he’s phenomenal, and that role? Oh my God!”
