Crime TV Heroes: On ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ season 7 and the saga of Sam Hanna
When you are talking about Crime TV Heroes, we really feel that few fit the bill precisely like Sam Hanna from “NCIS: Los Angeles.” This is a man who speaks several languages, was at one point a Navy SEAL, cares about his family, and busts bad guys on a regular basis. When you’re looking at his resume alone, he is one of those people who you’d want to scoop up and hire almost immediately.
Are there still flaws to him as a person? Certainly, and that is what makes him human, an interesting character, and someone worthy of a further spotlight now in this series.
Why he’s a hero – Well, we just listed some of the reasons why, and we know that there are plenty more where that came from! He’s just the sort of person who you want to root for, and the sort of person you feel can do almost anything. He does have a softer side that we’ve seen here and there, and he’s shown that he is a good teammate to go along with being a good agent. They are two sides of the same coin, and he understands that there is more to the job than just taking down bad guys.
What he can learn – For Sam, there’s no question that he is committed … but at times he may be overly so. Taking a step back is something that we feel like many characters within the “NCIS” franchise struggle with, but for him in particular he has people beyond himself to think about. He has to be cognizant of that, since the last thing that he wants to do is see them get hurt as the result of his own actions. He has to be confident in the abilities of others, and not just with himself.
What we’d like to see – Moving forward, the big thing we want for him is a case that further tests his life away from the team, and throws the two together in a shocking, unexpected way. We actually know that is coming in the finale, and who knows? Maybe it carries into the eighth season. One other thing that we’d enjoy is some sort of multi-part arc that results in Sam going in deep cover, away from the team, and makes us wonder if he can make his way out the same person that he was going in.
