‘Fear the Walking Dead’ season 2, episode 2 reaction: Show boss on Salazar – Strand tension

At the moment, we’d be willing to wager that the two strongest characters within the world of “Fear the Walking Dead” are Victor Strand and Daniel Salazar, and for very specific reasons. These two guys are sharp, well-suited for this world, and they have the ability to be rather discerning. Therefore, it really should not come as too major of a surprise that there are some serious trust issues playing out between these two characters over Strand’s plans, which may actually turn out to be heading to Mexico for some sort of uncertain mission.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about the events and the tension of this most-recent episode, showrunner Dave Erickson merely said the following in teeing up some future events:

“…What we learn in this episode is San Diego is not safe. Strand, had told our family that San Diego was their destination. They know that’s not viable anymore. They know it’s not true and I think Daniel’s big concern is if we all get off the boat and leave Strand, Strand just might start her up again and leave us here. So he stays with an intention of trying to size him up and trying to get a better sense of what his plan is. And he pushes him a little bit in the episode. He asks him overtly, “Who are you going to leave behind?” And I think it’s an interesting dynamic between Strand and Salazar because they’re both survivors. I think they can see that in each other and Daniel’s not afraid to challenge him on it, which is fun.”

By the time we make it to the end of the first half of this season, we do imagine that we’ll get a better idea regarding everything that could unfold between these two men. Let’s just hope neither dies anytime soon, given the fact that their back-and-forth is helping a show so much that is missing some defining characters to date.
