‘Castle’ creator Andrew W. Marlowe gives ‘heartbroken’ response to Stana Katic departure

Andrew W. Marlowe is not brought up too regularly at the moment when it comes to “Castle” news, mostly because he is no longer the showrunner for the ABC hit. Yet, he’s still the creator of the show, and of course he wants to see the very best for the project.

Ultimately, his reaction HERE to the news that Stana Katic is departing the show after this season speaks for itself. What likely makes it worse for both him and for us as a viewer is that Katic apparently had no say in the matter, and didn’t even get the courtesy of an offer to return. ABC and ABC Studios ultimately made this decision on their own for budgetary reasons, with her co-star Tamala Jones also exiting stage right, as well.

The thing that often gets confused in the TV world are the differences between showrunners / producers and network executives. We cannot imagine anyone working on “Castle” past or present who wanted to see Katic depart or have the show move on without her, but this is the way this business unfortunately works sometimes.

We don’t know what the future holds at the moment, but we’d be thrilled if Marlowe and Katic get a chance to work together again at some point in the future. In addition to of course creating many of the characters we loved, Marlowe was responsible for writing many of the show’s best episodes over the years.

We imagine that this story is ultimately far from over, and we anticipate hearing from Fillion, some other cast members, and also the show’s current showrunners Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter at some point in the coming hours / days.
