‘Saturday Night Live’ ratings: Julia Louis-Dreyfus show improves on Russell Crowe outing

SNL -At this point in its season, “Saturday Night Live” is really not looking to do anything more than keep some of its numbers steady. It’s the spring, so let’s be real: There are millions of things that many people out there would probably rather be doing than sitting around their TV watching a comedy show, even if this said comedy show is in our opinion one of the funniest ones that is out there.

So when looking at the ratings for this weekend’s installment featuring Julia Louis-Dreyfus (read the review here), it is easy to imagine that NBC is probably satisfied with the overall performance. The show managed to generate a 1.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is a small improvement on the 1.8 the show drew with Russell Crowe. It’s even with the Peter Dinklage show, and hopefully this serves as a nice springboard-of-sorts as we look ahead to the May 7 return of the series via Brie Larson.

It is episodes like this that we consider to be incredibly integral to the long-term success of the series, largely because they offer up some genuine opportunities to remind viewers that the show can still be funny, edgy, and provide people with what they want to see. Bringing back Elaine from “Seinfeld” for the cold open was a wonderful bit of nostalgia, and having Larry David there as Bernie Sanders was also another nice gesture given the history that is there between him and the host. It’s certainly also timely and then some.
