ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 8, episode 17 video: Stana Katic, Nathan Fillion, and ‘Aladdin’s lamp’ collide
Now, we present you with what may be one of the funniest “Castle” sneak peeks of the year. After all, this one brings us joy in so many forms, given that it combines for us the trademark Richard Castle conspiracy theory with Ryan and Esposito getting super-competitive for approval. Also, Stana Katic’s facial reactions as Beckett starts to realize just where Rick is going once he starts to get wind of a crazy idea.
What we learn through this video is that there is a connection between the latest murder case and an ancient lamp, one believed by Rick to be the same one once harbored by Aladdin, and of course carrying a genie! We’ve heard of ninjas, time traveling, and Bigfoot all being involved in cases per Nathan Fillion’s character before, so why not throw a genie in there for good fun? “And here we go” may be one of the best Beckett lines of the season; she knows that it’s absurd, but subconsciously you gotta know that she likes it. She married the guy!
Also, what Beckett may realize through hearing Rick and some of his kooky classic theories out here is that while he may be really far out there, the truth actually is sometimes stranger than fiction and he may help the NYPD explore avenues that they don’t often think about. They may be too conservative, he may be too extreme, and somewhere in the middle is the truth.
Also, somewhere in the midst of all that is laughter. While this is not entirely the “Castle” of old thanks to where Beckett is now sitting, it definitely feels more like it than some earlier episodes this season. Any installment that features Rick suspecting mystical activity and/or Disney tie-ins is something that we’ll always co-sign with a giant smile on our face.
As for Ryan and Espo, they just like to bicker. Also fun.

Nobody thinks that they should rub the lamp and ask for another season? Especially since there are so many shows on ABC whose ratings are so much WORSE than CASTLE?

Remember when RC was sophisticated, cleaver and incredibly intelligent, now we have Alfred E Newman. All that’s missing is the red hair, freckles and the buck teeth.

How i miss the smart, suave, sexy, childlike Rick Castle i fell in love with. S8 version of him is silly, childish, and immature. No wonder Kate is unamused, so am i. She used to like his wild theories, but has grown tired of them. Character assassination is rampant this year.

Vikki, you sure have that right . TPTB have made Rick look like a complete fool , and Kate as an insigator/ mean spirited women in the relationship. Maybe TPTB are really trying to break them up for a spin off.

Vikki, true but you know these writers can come up with something, they have all season. Maybe they will just kill her off. Wouldn’t put it past Hawley/Winter.

Me either. Personally i think thats what they’ll do so Castle can have other love interests. I wont be watching it though.

Nor will I be watching, I haven’t really been watching as it is just DVRing and watching the first 15 or so minutes to see who they are making look bad this episode.

Since they’ve already killed her character figuratively this season, it wouldn’t be a stretch… Give them what they want – a spin off with zero viewers!! Hope Stana moves on to a project that appreciates and showcases her talent.

Jan, I totally agree she is not the only Character assignation on this show, They have made RC into as Leo stated Alfred E Newman .TPTB really just assassinated the whole series and all the Characters.
