‘Shark Tank’ video: NoPhone creates a fun presentation

Sharks -Friday night’s new episode of “Shark Tank” is going to be introducing a variety of interesting products into the mix, but none is likely more intriguing from a TV perspective than the NoPhone. Basically, it’s a plastic brick in the design of a phone that is being advertised as a way to curb phone addiction. How in the world does it do that? We guess the idea is that you replace your phone with the NoPhone, and then it forces you to actually have a real conversation with someone else rather than spending almost all day starting at your phone.

As for whether or not we see this product really striking a nerve with consumers, that’s an entirely different story. We have almost no idea, and it feels like a hard sell to convince people to want to go buy this to cure something that they probably don’t feel is a big deal. You almost have to hope that other people go out and buy it for them to give them a hand.

Also, it’s inevitable that people are going to look at this and think it’s a joke. We don’t mean that to be disrespectful since the guys behind this seem to have a good sense of humor about it; it’s just hard to really get the sense that everyone out there will look at this at first glance and think that it’s interesting. These guys have a real challenge of being looked at beyond the novelty-product here. As someone who hates it when people go out and spend all of the time on the phone, we think there’s a practical (albeit funny) use here that people should take a look at. We’re just not sure the phone-addicted Sharks really will, especially for an investment.
