ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 5, episode 17 review: A death — at Olivia’s hands
Remember Andrew? He was that infamous guy from “Scandal’s” past who had the relationship with Mellie. The only reason we introduce the character in such a way is how he came almost completely out of left field for the story at the heart of Thursday night’s new episode, and also when it comes to what Olivia Pope did to ensure that he was stopped for good: She took him out!
Basically, Olivia had a little bit of trauma that came back after everything that happened to her with the kidnapping, and she drew from that in making her most violent move yet. Sure, you can argue that Andrew provoked her with his behavior and his language, reminding us of why he was such an unlikable character in the first place. However, murder it murder, and that is still something that she is going to have to deal with.
As for whether or not it made sense, we suppose so … but we would have preferred this story had a little more time to simmer rather just exploding. Olivia made one of her biggest moves that she’s ever made, and she has now been comforted by Fitz. In other words, there is still something going on between the two. Maybe it’s not what it was once, but it’s something. Granted, it’s going to be hard for Olivia to see him given that Abby has taken away her pass to the White House.
As if this was not enough crazy for you, Cyrus was caught with Tom, and we’re getting more and more of a sense that Rowan loves pulling strings as much as ever. Still, almost every story pales in comparison to the stunning move that may change Olivia forever.
