‘The 100’ season 3: Creator Jason Rothenberg responds to Ricky Whittle comments

The 100 -We knew in some ways even before Ricky Whittle exited “The 100” that there was some behind-the-scenes drama with the show, specifically when it comes to how he was supposedly treated on the way out. His mother had been vocal about it on social media, and this week a lengthy interview with AfterBuzz (read all about that here) showcased the origins of what has been a simmering feud between him and creator Jason Rothenberg.

The short answer to what he says in the interview is that he feels as though Rothenberg intentionally mistreated and even “bullied” him over some of his sentiments about the show and his story by intentionally cutting down on things for him to do in the scripts. Eventually, he was killed off, and has a chance now to star on “American Gods” airing over on Starz. He actually revealed that he asked to leave the show in the second season, but was denied at the time by Warner Bros. and The CW.

In the sake of the interview, Rothenberg has released a (very short) statement where he chooses to take a very different strategy:

“Ricky Whittle is a talented actor; I appreciate his work on The 100 and wish him all the best moving forward on American Gods.”

Ultimately, we have a feeling that Jason probably just wants all of this to go away in the end. After all, the show is becoming just as much about him in the press as it is the events of the story itself, and we certainly imagine that this is not something that was ever intended to be the case. (This is all just entertainment in the end.)
