MTV’s ‘Awkward’ season 5, episode 16 video: Another bump in the road at Jenna’s job

So far on the second half of “Awkward” season 5, we’ve certainly seen one Jenna Hamilton face a wide array of roadblocks in her path to acceptance. First and foremost, you have her personal life: Tamara has drifted far away towards Sadie, while at the same time she has no relationship with Matty at all. Then, you’ve got work life at IdeaBin, where she has a summer fellowship. While she was at first tremendously excited for this job, that sort of enthusiasm has changed largely as a result of the company’s attitude towards her work.

Upon entering employment there, Jenna’s understanding seemed to be that this was the sort of place she could put up intelligent, thought-provoking think-pieces to help people out there who are similar to her. What she’s learning instead is that this is a website trying to appeal more to mass market, and that sometimes includes stories on emojis or rants about various inane subjects. We’re not entirely sure what the show’s attitude is ultimately towards the site: We think that they’re trying to make IdeaBin look like goes to the lowest common denominator, while at the same time Jenna has been somewhat inflexible in her own right.

By the end of this episode, maybe Jenna will figure out where she fits in better … but we do understand her rage at a newly-hired Tamara getting all the opportunities in the world just for who she is, and not for any actual sort of training she has done in the field.
