‘The 100’ season 3: Show boss explains Lexa death further at WonderCon

The 100 LexaOn Sunday, The CW held its “The 100” panel at WonderCon in Los Angeles, and going into this particular event, we expected there to be a little bit of chaos following the death of Lexa. The fallout from this has already been intense on social media, and that carried over to a message that creator Jason Rothenberg passed along late last week, one in which he said that he never quite realized the impact that the death of this character was going to have on fans.

So how did the show / Jason handle and address all of this at the panel? Per IGN, Rothenberg reiterated much of what he said in the letter. While he did say that he would have still killed the character in retrospect, there would be a few things he would have done differently. For example, he would have given more time between Lexa and Clarke sleeping together and her dying. Also, he would have not hyped the relationship nearly as much on social media in the weeks beforehand.

Meanwhile, Jason also addressed the way in which Lexa died (the infamous “stray bullet”) with the following:

“This show doesn’t really traffic in heroic battlefield deaths … I was trying to make a different point. I was trying to make the point that life is fragile and even someone as powerful as Lexa could die from being in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

While we give Rothenberg credit for addressing the subject of Lexa and for even being at WonderCon in the first place all things considered, there were a few steps taken to ensure that this was a slightly less hostile environment. For one, the entire panel was introduced at once to avoid boos, and to go along with that there weren’t too many questions answered about the Lexa decision following his initial discussion on the topic.
