‘American Idol’ series finale will feature Carrie Underwood, Lee DeWyze, Scotty McCreery, and others
Basically, “American Idol” is unleashing almost all of their big guns for the show’s grant finale on Thursday, April 7. Kelly Clarkson is going to be giving a performance, and we wonder if this was pre-taped given that she is currently expecting a child.
Now, we can add a variety of other huge names to the list: Ruben Studdard, Fantasia, Carrie Underwood Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks, David Cook, Kris Allen, LeeDeWyze, Scotty McCreery, Candice Glover, Caleb Johnson, Nick Fradiani, Ace Young, Allison Iraheta, Amber Holcomb, Blake Lewis, Bo Bice, Brandon Rogers, Bucky Covington, Carly Smithson, Casey James, Chris Daughtry, Clark Beckham, Clay Aiken, Colton Dixon, Constantine Maroulis, Danny Gokey, Diana DeGarmo, Elliott Yamin, George Huff, James Durbin, Jessica Sanchez, Josh Gracin, Joshua Ledet, Justin Guarini, Katharine McPhee, Kellie Pickler, Kimberley Locke, Kree Harrison, LaToya London, Lauren Alaina, Melinda Doolittle, Pia Toscano, Sanjaya, Skylar Laine, and Tamyra Gray.
If we were mention some omissions, we have to start with the one missing champ in Phillip Phillips, whose relationship with the show may not be that great thanks to a lawsuit against 19 Entertainment. Meanwhile, we would have really liked to have seen a few of our other favorites such as Crystal Bowersox, David Archuleta, Casey Abrams, or Haley Reinhart on the list, but some of them may have had some other commitments at the time. We’d be upset about Adam Lambert not being mentioned, but he already appeared on the show this season in a prominent way so we’re not going to be too bummed over that.
One interesting surprise is that Clay Aiken is there, given that the show couldn’t have been thrilled about him calling the show boring earlier this season.

Just to be perfectly accurate, Clay called the current judges boring and said he preferred Simon. The show itself and the contestants were untouched. He only said what everyone was thinking, kind of like Simon.

I really do hope Clay is in the finale and has a chance to sing. Yes, he put his foot into his mouth BIG TIME and should have just shut up. But…he really is one of the best to come out of the AI ‘machine’. He’s had the most diverse career of any other contestant and has one of the top 3 or 4 voices. AI knew was was the true winner of AI2 and gave him plenty of ‘extra work’ deserving of being the champ. He should not have dissed the show and the people who believed in him and gave him ‘his start’. I gave seen every concert tour he did and he’s one of the best live performers in the business. But…I will not be surprised, just very upset, if he is not part of the finale.
