‘Blue Bloods’ season 6 spoilers: Is the show getting inspiration from ‘Serial’

Blue Bloods season 6We have long said that the best episodes of “Blue Bloods” are the ones that focus on police politics more than the ones that try to resolve any sort of murder. However, occasionally here and there we have ones that break the mold, and that is why we are bringing out some of the first details from “Town Without Pity,” a new episode airing on Friday, April 1.

Take a look at the full synopsis for this hour below, which makes it more than clear precisely how “Serial” of all things is going to be an inspiration for a storyline:

“Frank and Danny work together to help Nick Constantine (Michael Nouri), a rehabilitated ex-con who Frank put away years ago, when Constantine becomes involved in the murder of an old enemy. Also, as Erin prepares for a murder trial, she learns the prosecutor who previously handled the case is withholding the location of the alleged killer so she can interview him on her popular podcast.”

In the end, we imagine that we really should not be altogether surprised about this when you consider that this is a show that has taken inspiration from headlines before, and certainly would not have a problem doing so again. Also, they have an interesting angle to it where a podcast could end up playing a role in dragging a case along longer than it needs to be. This is an angle that we don’t often see explored when it comes to things like “Serial” or “Making a Murderer,” which most people enjoy as a compelling form of entertainment or education.
