‘How to Get Away with Murder’ season 2 finale review: A Frank mystery, death, and a Hapstall killer revealed
Do you ever get the feeling that sometimes we are not worthy for getting to see Viola Davis and Cicely Tyson on the same network TV show? We do, which is what made watching the finale of “How to Get Away with Murder” on ABC Friday night so riveting. It was almost everything you could have wanted, with “character-focused” being at the top of the list.
It would have been so easy for the show to just give us a series of crazy scenes where everyone was screaming at one another, which is exactly the opposite of what they did. For the first three-quarters of this episode, Annalise had retreated home to Tennessee, where she recovered from everything that was happening + the arrest warrant that was out there in her name. Through some of these scenes, we did finally see Annalise come clean to her mother about some of what happened to her in the past, including the death of her baby.
As it turns out, though, Annalise had another out at the end of the day. When she learned that Caleb was the informant out to get her, she then showed the evidence that she had that Caleb was actually the killer all along.
Speaking of killers, we also learned a thing or two about what Sam Keating had hanging over Frank over all of this time: He was responsible for driving the truck so many years ago. Sam made him to never say a word. So where is Frank now? We were extremely concerned that he had offed himself, but that was not entirely clear as Laurel searched for him at his place in the closing minutes. All we know is that he was burdened with grief. It’s either that or he was off killing Wes’ biological father, who was shot in the closing seconds of the episode right when he was confronted.
Some stories and mysteries were tied up tonight, but after this incredible hour, it’s pretty clear that there are some more out there that remain. Episode Grade: A.
