Fox brings over Fox News’ Megyn Kelly for primetime special

Fox -

The following certainly has to qualify for news that we did not see coming today. On the heels of multiple debate showdowns with Donald Trump, not to mention a wide variety of commentary coming from the Presidential candidate on Twitter, Megyn Kelly is now set to receive her first hour-long special on Fox proper. Note that this was not a typo, and we are referring to the broadcast network rather than Fox News.

In one way, this reveal is hardly a shock at all given that Kelly has brought Fox News a tremendous amount of attention, and given when this special is set to air on May 23, Fox is probably just looking for ratings. It’s right before the Memorial Day holiday arrives, and many of their shows may already be over by that time. The bigger surprise comes in how Fox and Fox News have a little bit of creative distance between them when it comes to how they want to do business.

Bill Geddie, who was the executive producer for “The View” for many years, is set to serve as an EP on the special. We do have to wonder if this could turn into more specials down the road, given that Fox is really the only one of the Big Four networks that does not have any sort of primetime news-magazine. The challenge for Kelly is going to be finding a way to bridge the gap between the Fox News crowd and more mainstream viewers, who dislike the cable-news network for its oft-conservative leanings.

Ultimately, we are very much curious to see how this fares, and we will present some further news all about it in due time.
