Ratings: ‘The Bachelor’ finale big; ‘Gotham,’ ‘Supergirl,’ ‘Lucifer’ hit lows

Ben -Based on the ratings that we’re seeing right now for Monday night’s primetime TV lineup, it may be fair to label “The Bachelor” as a fierce ratings tornado that swallows up everything in its past. Nothing really withstood the storm that it created in the numbers.

The winners – The 2.9 in the 18-49 demographic that the ABC reality TV show scored was incredible, and it further shows precisely why the network does not take a whole lot of risks with this franchise: There’s no real need to. Why disrupt what is obviously a good thing for them? The two-hour finale almost defeated “The Voice” (3.0) on the night, while the “After the Final Rose” (2.7) also performed really well. All of this sets the stage well for the season starring JoJo Fletcher a little bit later this year.

There’s not a whole lot of great news elsewhere, but we’ll give an honorable mention to “NCIS: Los Angeles” (1.3) and “Blindspot” (1.7) for holding on pretty strong given the competition on the night.

The losers – It was a rough night to be a show with either superheroes or supernatural tendencies. “Gotham” and “Supergirl” both either tied or set new series lows with 1.3 ratings in the demo, while “Lucifer” had a low of its own in a 1.2. We do think that “Gotham” and “Supergirl” are hurting each other a little bit, but we’d still blame more than anything else the cavalcade of reality TV programming that was on the air. When two shows are eating up basically a 5.9 between them, that doesn’t leave a whole lot of room for anyone else.
