‘Star Trek’ revival for CBS All Access already more than half paid for

Just in case you were concerned at all about whether or not the upcoming “Star Trek” revival set for CBS All Access may not turn out to be much of a hit, the CEO of CBS itself really wants to alleviate some of those concerns.

Speaking (per TrekMovie) at a recent conference, Les Moonves confirmed that just just based on international sales already, this show is coming close to being paid off already:

“We announced Star Trek, and internationally, we basically have covered 60% of the cost of the show already. To make up that [other] 40%, it’s not going to take a whole lot of subscriptions, and it says to the world that we are very serious about this.”

This new series is going to premiere at some point in 2017, and after airing the first episode on the network it will switch over to the service. “Hannibal” showrunner Bryan Fuller (who has worked on the franchise before) has been tapped to oversee the project, and for the time being it feels like there is a lot to be excited about.

Are there still some concerns? Sure, mostly in that it is going to take some diehard Trekkers to shell out the monthly $5.99 for just one series. While CBS All Access does have some great services in that you can re-watch a lot of older series, it doesn’t have many other original properties yet beyond the “Big Brother” live feeds that are well-known to consumers. Maybe that will change, but we’re speaking more in the now.
