‘Girl Meets World’ season 3: Show boss on future of Riley, Lucas, and Maya

Girl Meets World -We know that there were many out there who were hoping for some sort of definite resolution to the Maya / Lucas / Riley love triangle of sorts on “Girl Meets World” Friday night, only to soon realize that this was something that they were not going to get in “Girl Meets Legacy.” Instead, the primary function of that hour was simply setting up everything that was to come with high school in the third season, and showing some of these characters growing up.

Rest assured, there will be some sort of resolution to this story … but the point of this show was never meant to be this over everything else. This is something that creator Michael Jacobs teases further to TheWrap:

“This will be answered in Season 3. It will span probably a third to a half of Season 3. Not as primary focus, but always as an underlying thing in existence for the characters. And then when we bring it up to primary, we will resolve it in a way that shows an answer to a much bigger question, which is, how do young people at this age perceive relationships? What is the value of them? And what are our friendships, really? If the audience perceives that what we’re talking about is 14-year olds in love, they have missed what we’re doing entirely. All of this will explain itself as part of the season.”

One other thing that you can expect more of in season 3? Josh Matthews. Riley’s teenage uncle was written out at times late in the season due to actor Uriah Shelton recovering from some injuries caused by an accident; you will see more of him, and his presence could be interesting shaking up the foundation the remainder of the series.

Jacobs also added that the show will try to incorporate some more mature topics with the series heading to high school … at least within the parameters of this being on the Disney Channel. With that in mind, there is only so far the show can push it.
