‘Switched at Birth’ season 5 will be last one, creator confirms

Clearly, the switch from ABC Family to Freeform is representing the end of an era for many shows. We’ve already hard time and time again now that “Pretty Little Liars” is coming to a close after the upcoming seventh season, and in a post on Twitter (see HERE), “Switched at Birth” creator Lizzy Weiss is also making it clear that you can prepare to say farewell to her show, as well, after its upcoming fifth season.

In this post, Weiss did not make it entirely clear as to why the show is going to be coming to a close, but it is easy to come up with at least some theories for it. For example, one such assumption is just that the network wanted to move forward; another is that maybe the writers and producers realized that this was the right ending with many characters entering adulthood. Regardless of when the show ended, we do feel at this point that the series’ legacy is intact. This is a show that really highlighted problems and solutions for the deaf community, and served as a nice inspiration to some and a reminder of our shared humanity. It was a really special show for many people out there, and one that will for sure be missed.

We don’t want to start waxing too poetic right now, though: There’s still a lot of the show still to air! Therefore, we’re going to spend much of our time over the next several weeks sharing some more news on it.
