Is ‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 7, episode 16 new tonight on The CW?

tvd -“Days of Future Past.” That’s not just the name of an “X-Men” movie; it’s also the title for the upcoming episode of “The Vampire Diaries.” Unfortunately, it’s not one that you’re going to have a chance to check out on The CW tonight.

This episode, directed by series star Ian Somerhalder, is going to air on Friday, April 1, so it’s really still some time away. The title here is fitting even beyond it being an obvious movie reference, given that we are jumping into the flashforwards completely for the first time since they emerged, while at the same time we’re going to start implementing a different story device in the flashback.

In using these, expect to learn a thing or two about how some of the characters came to be in their present situations, whether you are talking about Matt’s current disdain for vampires or the relationship between Enzo and Bonnie. There are still some stories that need to be filled in, and the show can do that while also setting the stage for the finale.

Speaking of which, the schedule at the moment seems to dictate / suggest that the show is going to be able to run new episodes on a weekly basis until we get around to May, so there are not going to be any more lengthy hiatuses coming up in season 7.

If you did miss the big news from earlier today, “The Vampire Diaries” is coming back for another season! Not only that, but you’re going to have a chance to see both Somerhalder and Paul Wesley back once more.
