‘The Vampire Diaries’ stars Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley reportedly sign on for season 8

Salvatore -

Today, the great news came out that The CW basically renewed their entire primetime lineup currently on the air for an additional season, but we can understand if there were some further questions out there about the status of certain actors and casts.

For those of you specifically wondering about the future of “The Vampire Diaries,” we now have great news: Both Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley are staying put. According to Deadline, both of the leads have signed on for an eighth season, which will help ensure that there is not an enormous cast turnover as we move further and further into the series.

It’s too early to tell whether or not season 8 is the show’s last, but we will pour some praise on the writers / producers for the season so far. When it comes to intensity and character development this is probably the strongest year for the show to date, and we only hope that it will get a little bit stronger moving forward. We imagine that the strength of the scripts is one of the reason why Somerhalder and Wesley want to stay put, and we’re sure that it also helps that the two have been given further opportunities over the past little while to be involved with the series, including directing multiple episodes.

The new season will premiere more than likely at some point this fall, and you better believe that we’ll have some additional info on the show as more and more news starts to pour out.
