‘The Late Late Show’ segment ‘Carpool Karaoke’ could become its own show
Do you really love a certain “Late Late Show” segment in Carpool Karaoke enough to actually watch a full show all about it? Apparently, this is a question that someone out there is at least wondering, hence the new reports that we’re getting today.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show’s host in James Corden and his executive producer in Ben Winston are shopping around some sort of version of the segment to major outlets. There could be heavy interest, with this having many potential benefits. Our easy comparable here at the moment is “Lip Sync Battle,” which originally came about as a sketch on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and has become a huge hit now for Spike.
Do we see this doing the same thing? We’re not sure, since it will depend heavily on how you structure this in a way that makes it more than just watching people sing songs in a car every time. With “Lip Sync Battle,” there’s a component of “who sung it better?” to it. Here, we’re not entirely sure how you make it competitive unless you’re just having people vote on it at home using Twitter or something.
Corden won’t be hosting this version of the show, but he could make some occasional appearances here and there. We’ll let you know if the show finds a home, but given the popularity of the segment (and the fact that it has attracted people like Justin Bieber and Adele), we consider it to have a pretty good shot.
