‘Saturday Night Live’ music: Future, The Weeknd perform ‘Low Life’; also, ‘March Madness’

SNL -This weekend marked a big opportunity for Future as he was the musical guest for “Saturday Night Live,” but it turned out that he brought along a famous friend for the performance of his track “Low Life”: The Weeknd.

If you want to think about something crazy, think of the fact that this performance was the third time that The Weeknd has appeared on the show in the past two seasons. He featured for Ariana Grande (ironically next week’s host) during her first appearance as musical guest, and he also got to be the solo musical guest earlier this season. We’re not going to pretend like we were familiar with this song at all, mostly because we weren’t. It’s been a while this season since there has been a musical guest we’re intimately familiar with, but we understand the popularity of Future in any context. His songs have strong hooks, he attracts great vocalists to perform with him, and he has a good stage presence.

We’ll have more on his second performance a little bit later in the night, so be sure to check back for that.

Update: For his second song, Future performed solo “March Madness,” a song that seems appropriate given the month that we’re in. Once again, tremendous charisma on stage, but the big problem with this one was that with all of the auto-tune that we heard from start to finish, we really have almost no clue just what he said for the vast majority of the song. As a newbie to his music, that’s a little frustrating.
