‘Outlander’ season 2 spoilers: Caitriona Balfe on Claire, Jamie, and Frank Randall
The premiere of “Outlander” season 2 on Starz April 9 is just over a month away, and if there is one thing that we can say at the moment, it is this: There is a heck of a lot to look forward to when it comes to the story. Many of the book readers already know a thing or two about it, and you could say that this particular tease at the story ahead is created with them in mind.
With that, a warning: Stop reading now if you are extremely sensitive to spoilers.
Still with us? Then we’ve got some wonderful new quotes from star Caitriona Balfe about the emotional struggle of Claire Fraser in season 2. Eventually, she is going to find her way back to her present only for Frank to realize that she is not only in love with another man in Jamie, but that she is expecting a baby with him. Here is how she describes the situation in an interview with TV Guide:
“The tragedy of that relationship is that Frank really loves her. People bash on Frank, but the poor guy gets this woman back that he loves and she’s pregnant with another man’s child. She tells him that she’s never going to love him again and that’s very tragic … When Claire and Jamie meet each other, that’s a very equal love. It’s something bigger than both of them and it spans time and space. That’s the true soulmates.”
One of the largest things superficially working against Frank is of course the face. Tobias Menzies plays both parts, and it will be incredibly hard to see that face now and not picture Black Jack Randall. For many TV viewers only, the last time we saw Frank was before we saw the true extent of Jack’s terrors; we had plenty of suggestions of it, but nothing akin to the events in “To Ransom a Man’s Soul.”
In the end, we imagine that there will be romance aplenty in season 2, but you have to anticipate an array of heartbreak and longing to go along with it.
