‘Downton Abbey’ series finale: Is Laura Carmichael open to season 7, movie, something else?
Sunday night marks the series finale for “Downton Abbey,” and with that there is this sort of inevitable questioning as to what could be coming up next. The show may be over, but will it be that way forever? When the show ended in Britain there was certainly a lot of rumbling about a potential movie, and that is something that is crossing over now to America. This is a show that fans are just not ready to let go of and it’s easy to see why.
In speaking about the show’s future per USA Today, Laura Carmichael (Edith) made it clear that she would be open to virtually whatever the future could hold, pending that the right story was there for her to come back:
“If [creator Julian Fellowes] writes something that brings us back together, that would be very exciting.”
While a season 7 could be fun years down the road, we don’t really think that this is likely. After all, Michelle Dockery already has a new series lined up for TNT, and we know some of the other actors are circling other film / TV projects. Fellowes could now be focusing more on “The Gilded Age” for NBC in America, and at a certain point, you also have to be okay with saying goodbye to a show when the time comes. We’d say that the only real reason for it to come back is if someone comes up with a story that is so outstanding, that it would be foolish for the masterminds behind the show not to consider it.
