Ratings: ‘Mysteries of Laura’ finale helps season 2 odds; ‘Rosewood’ plummets; ‘Survivor’ up
To say that Wednesday night’s primetime ratings were a mixed bag would be an understatement. Some shows have a heck of a lot to celebrate, whereas some others are left to simply sit around and bemoan their current position. Without further ado, let’s dive right in.
The good news – How about “The Mysteries of Laura” for generating a heck of an improvement for the finale? After tying its season low last week with a 1.0 in the 18-49 demographic, the show surged up to tie its season high with a 1.2. While these ratings are great, the obvious consistency here is one reason why it could earn a season 3 renewal.
Elsewhere, “Survivor: Kaoh Rong” (2.2) showed its own consistency in drawing a season-high rating, taking advantage of the lack of “Arrow” and “American Idol” on the night. “Law & Order: SVU” drew a solid 1.6 for what was its biggest episode in quite some time given Olivia Benson’s change in job status.
We’d also say that “The Real O’Neals” had a pretty strong start over on ABC. In getting a 1.8 and a 1.9 through two episodes, this show further proves that its network gets family comedy right more than many of the competitors.
The bad news – It was a complete disaster for “Rosewood.” After a lengthy layoff and with no “Empire” on the air yet, the Morris Chestnut series returned to a series-low 0.9. We figure that there were probably a ton of people who didn’t even realize that the show was on. “Hell’s Kitchen” after it fell to a 1.0, clearly missing the “American Idol” lead-in, while on ABC “American Crime” fell to a 0.8.
