Emmys 2016: Where ‘The X-Files,’ ‘Fuller House’ will be eligible
There are always a deluge of questions when it comes to the Primetime Emmy Awards and eligibility, but we can only imagine that this is going to spiral out in some other ways moving forward. After all, there are so many more ways in which to watch TV now, and as a result of that there are also far greater odds that everyone will be perpetually confused on one thing or another.
For now, we’re rather pleased to have answers on one thing: The status of certain revivals. Can something like “The X-Files” season 10 really be counted as a limited series, or is it relegated more to series status? “American Horror Story” and “Fargo,” despite having a shared universe every season, manage to stick around in that category, so we do think that this is a fair question.
However, the Television Academy has now confirmed via TVLine that these shows are going to be once more relegated to the series race, and will not have a chance to compete against some other competition:
“Once a show is established as a series, if additional shortened seasons are added… it would still be considered a series, unless it was limited to one or two episodes (which would categorize it as a movie and a limited series respectively).”
In the end, the rule does seem fair, though we would also like to see shows like “Horror Story” taken out of a category where they, at least in our mind, no longer belong. We don’t ultimately think that this particular ruling will have much of an impact; while “The X-Files” was fun and “Fuller House” has its moments, we don’t get the sense either is likely to get much awards recognition later this year.
