Ratings: Crossover lifts ‘The Vampire Diaires’; ‘Sleepy Hollow’ up; ‘Blue Bloods’ down

Blue Bloods season 6All in all, what a miserable Friday night we just had in the ratings. When the top-rated program was “Shark Tank” with only a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic, it’s pretty clear that viewers are either getting bored with current offerings … or they’re all off somewhere watching “Fuller House” instead. Maybe it’s an either / or sort of situation.

The good news – There’s not a whole lot of it, but kudos to “The Vampire Diaries” for improving to a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic for the first part of their crossover with “The Originals.” It’s at least a good sign that people can be interested in this show still when they decide to do a big event.

Elsewhere, “Sleepy Hollow” improved to a 0.8, but we’re not sure this qualifies as great news given that we’re still very likely to see this show getting canceled on the other side of this season.

The bad news – It wasn’t a great news for “Blue Bloods,” which dropped down to a 1.2 rating when it could’ve won the night in both viewers and the demo had it stayed steady. “Second Chance” fell to a dismal 0.5, while “Last Man Standing” (1.1) and “Dr. Ken” (1.0) each slid slightly. We don’t think ABC has huge expectations for these comedies, but they probably want them to at least remain above a 1.0 for the sake of at least giving them respectable numbers.

There were a lot of shows (“The Originals,” “Hawaii Five-0”) that were more or less steady, but even with that we’re not sure how thrilled you can be with a 0.4 or a 1.1 given network expectations.
