‘Call the Midwife’ season 5, episode 6: Laura Main on vacation scenes

Shelagh -

There is a new episode of “Call the Midwife” coming to the BBC on Sunday, and one of the more interesting sequences on the show could revolve around Dr. Turner doing just about everything that he can in order to relax with Shelagh, even though the odds of it working are not particularly high. After all, this is a man who has been through quite a bit this year, with one of the primary things being that he has realized that much of what he has been taught / what he has been teaching is not exactly as accurate as he thought it was. Medicine and technology are changing, and with that new advancements are showing the danger of things such as smoking.

If you were in his situation, trying to relax while another doctor was looking after patients, would you be able to? Every person has a different answer.

In describing the production side of doing some of these outdoor “holiday” scenes with Stephen McGann to What’s on TV, Laura Main had the following to say:

“We filmed the camping scenes round the back of the Nonnatus House set where there is a steep hill with trees and grass but because I was in my holiday attire, it felt different and we were so excited; it really did seem like we’d gone on holiday, even though we were only five minutes down the road.

“I always have a right laugh with Stephen and for this he had to wear these shorts that his wife, Heidi Thomas [the show’s creator], wrote into the script. He was very game and would walk into the make-up trailer like he was James Bond trying to be as sexy as possible knowing how ridiculous he looked!”

While we don’t know if these scenes will be as funny as Main’s description suggests, we are rather pleased to see that everyone is getting a chance to do something a little different on the series.
