‘Teen Wolf’ season 5, episode 17 review: Liam faces the Beast; Parrish’s livelihood

If there was one theme at the center of “Teen Wolf” Tuesday night, it was … lacrosse? You may have missed it, but the sport was firmly back in session over the course of tonight’s new episode.

However, this was not a straight-laced lacrosse game that Scott and company were using as a distraction to some of their problems. It rarely ever is. Instead, we saw an elaborate plan in the latest efforts to sift out the origins of the Beast, and to figure out a proper way to stop it. It’s too bad that there were many bumps in the road along the way.

For example, who knew that Kira would end up being such a major presence, and a danger to everyone she came into contact with? She caused a wide array of chaos before Scott was actually able to calm down the fox within. To think that this was only the least of his worries, since by the end of this hour the relentless violence was a little bit of the norm. We saw that much of what we’re experiencing now with Parrish (who has apparently been dead this whole time) and the Beast originated all the way back in season 3, which makes even more sense given that we’re tracing everything back to Deucalion already.

Also, Liam is now in big trouble after challenging the Beast. Sure, he’s brave, but is this smart?

In the end, we do think that this particular hour did a good job of frying everyone’s mind, but we do think that there needs to be a point when this show at least starts to make a little more sense. Sure, it is fun to throw our brain for a loop time and time again, but we don’t know what is going on with Parrish, what is happening with the Beast, if Liam is going to survive, and a variety of other questions. Grade: B.
