‘Downton Abbey’ season 6, episode 8 preview (PBS): Can Michelle Dockery’s Mary still find love?

There were many sad moments on Sunday night’s new episode of “Downton Abbey” when it comes to Lady Mary, as she decided following the accident at the racetrack that she did not think that she was right for Henry Talbot. She loved him, but did not want to be responsible for separating him from something that she knew was a major passion of his. It was a sad end to this story … but the good news is that it’s not quite over yet. (Warning: There are minor spoilers ahead!)

The synopsis below makes it clear that there will be more romance for at least one character on the upcoming episode in one week’s time, and who knows? Maybe Mary could turn it around:

“Scandal and secrets rock Downton Abbey when romances get complicated, Mrs. Patmore needs help, and the staff freelances. Thomas takes a fateful step and Isobel puts her foot down.”

Even if there is some good news coming up for Mary, we should go ahead and warn you that there is at least one other character on the show who could be in some trouble by the time you make it to the end of this particular hour. Not only that, but the way in which it happens will come as a surprise, and will serve as a very interesting precursor to the two-hour series finale, which will be all about saying goodbye to Downton as the cast enters a new year.
