‘Blue Bloods’ season 6, episode 14 review: Nicky in the spotlight
We do like it when “Blue Bloods” tells a story that is powerful enough to hit home with many of its characters, and we like it even more so when it revolves around someone who does not often get a lot of airtime in Nicky Reagan-Boyle. Erin’s daughter found herself and some friends in hot water early during Friday night’s new episode when they were arrested on drug possession, and nobody was particularly willing to fess up to being the responsible party.
Despite the fact that we assumed Nicky would eventually be let off the hook, we were surprised with the way in which she went about getting one of her friends to confess. She at first was unrelenting in not turning her friends over, but eventually she took the perspective of an attorney in figuring out the right way to have him admit to wrongdoing. In accepting a plea he gets a lesser sentence, and lets Nicky and her friends off the hook. Maybe she takes after her mother, after all.
As for some other news from this episode…
Frank takes on a priest – Was the episode trying to tell us that the priest was in the wrong for being too easy on a criminal? Probably in this case, since a quicker course of action would have prevented so many problems. We don’t take away from the incidents here as evidence, though, that the church should always adhere to the level of the law. There are gray areas some times, but at a certain point you also must consider that there is such a thing as too much forgiveness.
Danny and Baez’s investigation – Well, other than him talking a woman off a ledge, this was not exactly the strongest story of the hour. For most of it, we wanted to focus back in on Nicky and all of the politics going on there. This was the high point of a particularly solid episode, as it turned out to be a reminder that vendetta exist everywhere, and that the target on the Reagan family’s back is not going away. Grade: B+.
