Ratings: ‘Law & Order: SVU,’ ‘Chicago PD’ rise with crossover; ‘American Idol’ down

Law & Order: SVU logoThe latest news is in when it comes to the ratings for Wednesday night, and yet again this time we have nothing bad to say about the performance of the NBC lineup.

The winners – Sure, you can say that “The Mysteries of Laura” (1.2 in the 18-49 demographic) is still fairly low, but it improved versus its most-recent week. Meanwhile, “Law & Order: SVU” (1.9) and “Chicago PD” (2.0) both posted excellent numbers for their crossover event. Both shows are now posting better ratings than they were a season ago in the demo, with the increase for “SVU” (over 5% so far) being all the more impressive. Yes, we know that “Empire” is coming next month and that could take a bite out of the ratings, but even if it does the show should still be in very good shape.

Also, there was some good news for “Code Black” over at CBS, which improved on its most-recent performance to finish with a 1.3.

The losers – There was no enormous catastrophe to look at with disdain from Wednesday night, even if both “American Idol” (2.1) and “Hell’s Kitchen” (1.3) each slid versus their recent ratings. Both still performed well enough to justify being on the lineup, and “Idol” did still win the timeslot. The big test there will come in a week’s time when the show runs up against “Survivor.”

“Criminal Minds” also dropped down to a 1.8, but we cannot imagine CBS really crying themselves to sleep over that number right now. It’s still solid for this show, and it has some big episodes coming back to bring in more viewers. We’ll have to wait and see what happens here.
