Vanessa Hudgens’ father Greg passes away, will perform ‘Grease: Live’ in his honor
Tonight is the much-anticipated debut of “Grease: Live” on Fox, and we know that this is going to be a particularly huge occasion for the network.
With that being said, this is going to be a particularly emotional occasion for one of the production’s stars in Vanessa Hudgens. Speaking in a series of posts on Twitter, she announced that her father Greg has passed away after a lengthy battle of cancer. She will perform her part of Rizzo on the show tonight, and will do so in his honor. It’s a heartbreaking thing to have to go through, but we imagine that she will be able to rally with the support of all of the rest of the cast and also the energy of the audience. Unlike some of the other musicals that have aired on NBC as of late, “Grease: Live” is going to be presented in front of a crowd at the studio lot. There will be a variety of songs that are familiar to those who are fans of the movie, but also ones from the stage adaptation, as well. It’s still to be seen just how much attention this show will get from casual viewers, but NBC’s previous musicals have all proven to be rather successful over the course of the past several years.
The cast for “Grease: Live” also includes Aaron Tveit, Keke Palmer, recent “Dancing with the Stars” contestant Carlos PenaVega, and ironically also a “Dancing with the Stars” judge in Julianne Hough playing the role of Sandy.
Our thoughts are with Hudgens and her family during this difficult time; we’ll have some more news on “Grease: Live” in the near future.
