Ratings Bubble Report: Is a ‘Galavant’ season 3 renewal stuff of fairy tales?

We love “Galavant.” As a matter of fact, we’ve made no secret of how much we love “Galavant.” It’s a hilarious, wacky, and interesting musical journey through medieval times. It’s also somehow still topical and has a great cast of people who seem to love their jobs.

Unfortunately, this may be where the good news ends. We do love to report on happy things during this Ratings Bubble Report articles, but at the moment the situation for the show at ABC may be similar to Isabella when she opened up that weapons cache and found children’s playthings inside.

The good news – People really like the show! It’s well-received critically, it’s refreshingly original, and do you think you’re going to find something else to air during the “Once Upon a Time” hiatus that is going to draw nearly as much attention from social media? The show does have a large following behind it when it comes to DVR viewings and internet streams, so the initial ratings may not be as bad as they initially seem.

The bad news – Unfortunately, bad is still bad. The show hasn’t been close to a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic since the premiere, and to some out there it was a surprise renewal last year with much better ratings on average. DVR ratings only help so much, since people gotta watch live so that advertisers can send over that money. You have to justify the cost.

Renewal odds – Low. Sometimes we go more in-depth in these articles, but there’s really not much depth to discuss here. The ratings for the show are not great, and as a result of that, we’re likely to see it canceled by the time May rolls around. Maybe it has a small chance of survival elsewhere (how about Hulu?); to us, it’s a dire shame that it is not on Netflix, since they have done a great job of acquiring other great movie spoofs, and they also have the similarly-absurd-but-also-more-adult “Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp.”

If you want to work to save the show, encourage your friends to watch live, and be sure to do so yourself! Convince the giants and the dwarves to come together in front of the TV to check it out. We adore the show and Tad Cooper the little dragon that could … so you never want to let go of hope completely.
