‘The X Factor’ UK winner Ben Haenow reportedly dropped by Syco

Ben Haenow -

Unfortunately for Ben Haenow, this didn’t take long: The 2014 winner of “The X Factor” has been dropped by Simon Cowell’s Syco record label after just one album.

This news comes courtesy of a show source, who said the following in a new story per The Sun:

“He was a big supporter of Ben but it’s simply down to business — Fleur East, who came second, has done much better. And at the end of the day our winners, especially the blokes, never have the same success as the likes of One Direction and Olly Murs.”

We cannot say that we’re took shocked by the news, given that Haenow never really had a lot of traction with his debut album, even though it included a duet with former “American Idol” champion Kelly Clarkson. The problem is just that there are not too many solo pop-rock male artists out there selling records, and the entire industry is over-saturated. It’s been years at this point since the show has has had a winner who has gone on to be a sensation. (Think Little Mix.) Heck, the majority of winners have become disappointments, with many of the bigger acts these days (One Direction, Olly, Ella Henderson) being people who didn’t get the title at the end.

We should go ahead and mention that we’re at least reasonably confident that Fleur should stick around the label for a little while longer. While we haven’t heard anything from her as of yet other than “Sax,” this single was at least a solid performer. Syco also has to turn their focus now on re-launching Louisa Johnson, who struggled out of the gate with “Forever Young.”
