‘Call the Midwife’ season 5, episode 2 preview: Why is Barbara at the docks?
For anyone who enjoys “Call the Midwife,” it must be quite the relief to know that season 5 is back! There are many personal stories coming over the course of the next couple of months, and in the process we will learn not only new things about our favorite characters, but also get some affirmation that they are in fact every bit as good and caring as we hoped that they were.
In the sneak peek below, we have what is a prime example of that as we see Barbara in particular trying to do everything that she can in order to help Jeffrey Beckett get some work at the docks, knowing that his wife is in trouble and hoping that there is something that can be done before we get around to the point in which she specifically asks a supervisor to help him. Unfortunately for her, he’s not too interested in hearing out her plea … and for a couple of different reasons:
1. He does not exactly want to be in the business of giving out charity, and it doesn’t matter who it is for.
2. Specifically, he did not find Beckett to be a good worker, and thought he was particularly lazy on the job. No matter what Barbara says, he may not be altogether interested.
This is yet another case of one of our midwives doing everything that they can in order to help. Unfortunately, this is also a reminder that sometimes, it takes a little bit more than one guardian angel to turn the tide.
