‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 7 spoilers: Could we see Nina Dobrev this year?

The latest -

So far this season on “The Vampire Diaries,” we’d say the show has done a rather tremendous job of moving the story forward without having one of their original stars in Nina Dobrev on board. While we do miss the Elena character, everyone remaining has been given some great material, and executive producers Julie Plec and Caroline Dries have also done a great job ensuring that she is not forgotten despite no matter what Damon and Stefan are up to now.

Is it possible that Dobrev could be back for more this season? Based on what Plec tells TVLine, much of it depends on when her two male stars are ready to call it quits:

“I basically committed to Ian [Somerhalder] and Paul [Wesley] that when they’re ready to be done, I’ll be done … They could be ready very soon, or they could really want to stick it out. Right now, that’s up to them. I’m with them as long as I feel like I can keep telling stories for them. [There] is still a chapter of [Elena’s] story left to be told … [I’ll] take [Dobrev] for whatever she’s willing to do to tell that story.”

Our personal hope is that the show has one more season after this one where it could build towards some sort of proper ending for all of the characters, and by that time Dobrev may be ready to return for enough time to wrap up the story. We worry that it could be rushed this season, but it’s also possible that the producers may not have a choice. We haven’t seen the ratings yet for the show on Friday nights.
