‘Sherlock’ season 4: PBS head speculates on premiere date

Sherlock season 3Earlier this year, we were treated as “Sherlock” fans to a fantastic and mind-melting special entitled “The Abominable Bride.” Unfortunately, that is all of the series we have seen since January 2014, and with the next three episodes of season 4 not even filmed just yet, there is no telling for certain when they will air for certain.

Our hope, however, has always remained the same: That we’ll get the episodes early next year, roughly using the same sort of timeline that we had for season 3. Maybe they’ll air on the same day in the US and the UK like they did earlier this year, or maybe the PBS airing will be slightly delayed as it was for season 3. Either way, PBS head Paula Kerger is hoping for an early 2017 premiere date just as many of us are. Here’s what she had to say, per the Independent, while discussing the series at TCA:

“We do have the next Sherlock announced, coming up about a year from now … As you know, Benedict has gotten to be somewhat popular since we began our work with him and he very much wants to continue with Sherlock. As you know, they are produced almost like films and we’re hoping the next one will be about a year from now.”

At the moment, there is almost little to nothing even known about season 4, beyond of course that Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman will be back while Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss will be the creative engines driving the series. As soon as more information is available, rest assured that we’ll have it for you soon enough.
