‘Chicago PD’ season 3, episode 12 review: Voight’s past; Ruzek and Burgess’ future
Over the years on “Chicago PD,” we’ve come to know quite a bit about the Voight character, but one of the biggest things has remained his conviction. Even though he is a man with a checkered past, he has searched hard for redemption … and we think at times he wants to see something similar in others.
During Wednesday night’s new episode of the show, we saw that Voight’s history with Eddie nearly cost him not only his own life, but put his team in a little bit of jeopardy. He wanted to use him as a CI, thinking that his history and connections would be an asset. Instead, the episode ended with Voight putting him in handcuffs while still hoping that much of the CI money would be given to the family.
It’s interesting that for an episode that gave us more of Burgess and Ruzek’s story, including a broken engagement at the very end, we’re still mostly transfixed on some of Voight’s mistakes tonight and whether or not they will come back to bite him. Why is that? It really just comes down to two simple things.
1. The performance of Jason Beghe, who was truly great tonight from start to finish.
2. The fact that this “Chicago” franchise has broken up so many engagements over the years that we have time envisioning a wedding actually happening at this point.
In the end, we’ll give this hour a recommendation thanks mostly to Voight. It’s not often we get a chance to feel for the guy quite like this. Grade: B+.
