‘Dexter’ revival still considered possibility for Showtime in the future

What's next? -

It’s the question that will never die, though we’re also not entirely sure that it is something that Showtime wants to go away: Questions regarding whether or not “Dexter” is going to be brought back at some point in the future on Showtime.

Speaking at TCA in regards to that question (which became an out-of-control rumor late last year because of a Thanksgiving Day tweet on the show’s official account), network executives took more or less the same stance that they have all along: There are no plans at the moment to bring the show back, but it is something that they are very much open to doing at some point in the future. We aren’t exactly shocked about this, mostly because of the fact that it was their #1 original series at the time that it ended. Also, we still believe that there is a thirst for redemption out there given the way in which the final season ended to come back and try to make things better.

Ultimately, we figure that there will be a few factors that go into this decision: Timing, finding a hole in the ever-expanding schedule that needs to be filled, and also the availability of Michael C. Hall to make more episodes of the show. We’d say right now that the odds of everything happening are about 50-50.

One of the biggest issues we can think of right now is that Scott Buck, who was the showrunner for the final years of the show, is now off working on Marvel’s “Iron Fist” for Netflix. They’re going to have to find someone new in charge.
