“Empire” is not returning to Fox until March 30, and with that of course will come a pretty wide array of storylines. We’ve seen the journey of Lucious Lyon play out in a wide array of dramatic ways so far, and we’re going to see that continue with the second half of season 2.
Take, for example, what happens when he and Jamal are both nominated for the same American Sound Award. Don’t you think that this is going to lead to some problems for the two of them? You better believe it. Speaking per TVLine, executive producer Ilene Chaiken had the following to say in regards to how this particular event could en up being something that sends some rather dramatic shockwaves down the spine of the family, mostly because Lucious may not be quite ready to handle the fact that his son has found a level of success that could rival his own:
“We all know that one single award doesn’t mean everything. But it certainly symbolizes to Lucious and Jamal the whole story of their relationship — the story of children surpassing their parents, of being the child of a famous and hugely successful artist.”
If there is a way for Jamal to have a distraction from all of the drama, it could be that the entire Lyon family could be preoccupied by something else altogether: The presence of Camilla as the new head of Empire Entertainment. Mimi Whiteman appointed her to be the person in charge, and we are very much curious to see what planting these seeds could do moving into the future.
